Conversation Class: Emily Lin
3 Components: Writing, Reading, Conversation
Writing
● Journal.
The member is expected to write at least 2 pages per day in their journal. They should also keep a vocab list that they add at least 5 new words to, daily. 30 minutes of each class will be spent discussing member’s journal.
● Assignment
For 20 minutes of each class the member will write a short dialogue or scene about a common situation. This is a work in development and will be added to each week.
Reading
● Rehearsed Reading
The member is expected to read aloud from his/her journal. Practicing this daily will benefit progress greatly. Consider our class as performance, so rehearse everyday.
● Cold Reading
The member will be given a reading sample and given 5-7 minutes to rehearse it before presenting it as if for real. As the member improves, the duration of this exercise will be extended.
Conversation
● Cold Conversation
The member should be prepared to discuss a variety of topics, chosen at random by the Leader. The topic may be of a common, simple theme or one that requires some research on behalf of the member.
● Free Conversation
An opportunity for the member to discuss whatever they would like. This exercise is member-driven. In other words, it is the responsibility of the member to engage the Leader in conversation.
Cancellation Policy
Once a schedule is agreed upon, it is imperative that the member adhere to it. However, the vagaries of life often intrude on our best-laid plans; therefore, should a schedule change be necessary, we request at least 24 hours notice of any alterations. Should you wish to postpone a class, please do so at least 1 day prior to that class. Any requests for changes with less than 24 hours notice will be considered a no-show and the member will be billed for the class.
